The Servant Songs. Duhm’s commentary on Isaiah () distinguished four passages which modern criticism has generally agreed to treat as the “Servant Songs.”.

Yahweh willingly acknowledges Him as “my servant,” thus indicating that the servant belongs to and has a close relationship with Yahweh Himself. In fact “my Moses is an expression parallel to “my chosen one,” suggesting that the divine choice or election is the foundation for the honourable position of and faithful performance Moses.

The prophet Isaiah draws a detailed and moving portrait of the Servant of Yahweh: “He is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.” The Servant is wounded and bruised for the sins of God’s people; Yahweh makes His soul a sin offering. Yet the Servant endures suffering patiently and without complaint.

The book of Isaiah contains four “Servant Songs” describing the Servant of the Lord. The first is found in Isaiah –9; the second in Isaiah –13; the third in Isaiah –11; and the fourth in Isaiah through In Jewish tradition, the Servant of.

Moses would meet God in the fire and understand that God’s very name Yahweh means the one who causes things to be. Despite sin, despite despair, despite hopelessness, Yahweh would provide, Yahweh. 1 When Moses, servant of Yahweh, was dead, Yahweh spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' adjutant. He said, 2 'Moses my servant is dead; go now and cross this Jordan, you and this whole people, into the country which I am giving to them (the Israelites).

3 Every place you tread with the soles. 13 'Remember the order given you by Moses, servant of Yahweh: Yahweh your God, in bringing you to rest, has given you the land where we are. 14 Your wives, your little ones and your cattle must stay in the country given you by Moses beyond the Jordan.

Verse 1. - Now after the death of form of the Hebrew is the usual historical one for the continuation of a narrative before commenced. The Book of Joshua is thus shown to be, and to be intended to be, a continuation of the Book of Deuteronomy, which ends with the death of Moses (see Speaker's Commentary in loc.).This link of connection is lost in the English version.

The Servant in later Judaism. Possible echoes of the Servant-figure have been detected in the OT itself, particularly in Zechariah ; a meek and suffering figure occurs in10; ; ; It is the character of the figure portrayed, rather than any verbal echo, which might suggest the influence of the Servant in Isaiah.

Deut. That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, saying, Deut. Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your Elohim, that it may be there for a witness against thee.

Notice where Moses instructed the Levites to put the Book of the Law he had written File Size: KB. Yahweh spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant, saying, 2  “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go across this Jordan, you and all these people, to the land which I am giving to them, even to the children of Israel.

3  I have given you every place that the sole of your foot will tread on, as I told Moses. Joshua 1 World English Bible (WEB). 1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, [] Yahweh spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant, saying, 2 “Moses my servant is dead.

Now therefore arise, go across this Jordan, you, and all these people, to the land which I am giving to them, even to the children of Israel. The phrase “servant of Yahweh” comes only once in the prophetic books, in Is ; most Old Testament occurrences of the phrase come in Joshua, where it is a description of Moses.

But the expressions “my servant,””your servant,” and “his servant,” with the pronoun referring to Yahweh, come a number of times in the prophetic books.Moses, the servant of the LORD, and the Israelites had destroyed the people of King Sihon and King Og. And Moses gave their land to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

The same whole-hearted devotion is found of Joshua towards Moses in Exodus Chapter 33 verse And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

Wherever Moses went, Joshua was there to serve him.
